Tom Stringham, Advisor.
In addition to his work at University Venture Fund, Tom Stringham is a Director in the ROTH Capital Partners Corporate Finance Group. Prior to joining ROTH, Mr. Stringham worked for Merrill Lynch & Co. in the Investment Banking Group in New York, where he worked with companies in diverse industries including: paper and forest products, transportation, consumer products, apparel and electronics. He also worked with Merrill Lynch & Co. as a specialist with expertise in private equity transactions; alternative investment and asset allocation strategies. Mr. Stringham is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from the University of Utah, where he also served as a member of the University Board of Trustees. Mr. Stringham's MBA is from Harvard Business School.
Peter Jarman, Advisor.
Mr.. Jarman has been an advisor to the University Venture fund since
2007. Currently Jarman, is a assistant VP and Sr. Investment Manager
for Fort Washington Capital Partners, where he leads investments in
technology related venture capital and private equity funds.
Additionally, Jarman led Fort Washington's investment advisory
services for the first Utah Fund of Funds. Previously, Jarman served
as Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Product Development for
Roundy, Inc., Hired by the L.B.O. investors for this position,
Jarman's responsibilities included restructuring product lines and
sales channels and expanding distribution. Prior to his position with
Roundy, Jarman was Senior Director of Global Channel Development for
Parametric Technology Corp. Jarman has held executive positions at
several venture backed companies including Senior Director for
Corporate Development at Oculus Technologies, Director of Product
Marketing and Business Development for Campus Pipeline (now SunGard
Higher Education) and Director of Retail Channel Development for Icon
Health and Fitness, Inc. With extensive experience in the
restructuring and development of distribution channels, Jarman is also
seasoned in marketing and business plan development. Jarman earned a
BA in Spanish from the University of Utah and an MBA from the Kellogg
School of Management at Northwestern University.

Michael Hennessy, Chief Financial Officer.
Michael began his career as an investment banker at Credit Suisse First Boston where he worked on international mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings and equity and debt offerings in a variety of industries and countries. He then joined the management team of a financial services software start-up with responsibilities in fundraising, business development and strategy. Michael subsequently worked as a technology research analyst for Great Companies, LLC, a large cap growth mutual fund.
Michael received his B.A. in English Literature from Williams College and his M.B.A. from Brigham Young University where he was awarded the Hawes and Dean’s Scholarships.
Geoff Woolley, Chairman, Board of Directors.
Working as an entrepreneur most of his professional life, Mr. Woolley founded both Dominion Ventures, Inc., and European Venture Partners ("EVP"). Over the past 20 years, Mr. Woolley has worked with over 300 emerging growth companies, including Bookham, Ciena, Coinstar, Hotmail, Human Genome Science, Tivoli, and Vertiex Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Woolley currently devotes only a portion of his business time to Dominion and EVP in order to provide time for other interests in academia, politics, and non-profit organizations. He currently serves on several University of Utah advisory boards. He worked extensively on the Gore presidential campaign as a Co-Chair in 2000 and continues to be active in the Democratic National Committee. Mr. Woolley served for five years as the chairman of the NAMES Project, one of the largest HIV organizations, and remains engaged in HIV issues. Mr. Woolley received a B.A. in Finance from Brigham Young University and an M.B.A. from the University of Utah.

Jack Brittain , Board of Directors.
Jack Brittain is Dean of the David Eccles School of Business and the University of Utah’s Vice President of Technology Venture Development. He received his Ph.D. in Business from the University of California, Berkeley. A professor for 15 years before becoming dean, he published numerous studies of strategic change in dynamic environments, research recognized by the Academy of Management with two outstanding paper awards. Dean Brittain is the recipient of five teaching awards, including the University of Texas Chancellor’s Council Outstanding Professor Award. In 2005 he received the Best of State Award in Education for the David Eccles School’s innovative entrepreneurship and non-profit consulting programs, in 2006 and 2007 was selected as one of the v|100 by Utah’s leading venture capitalists, an award that recognizes Utah’s most successful entrepreneurs, was featured as one of Utah’s “25 most influential business people” in 2006 and 2007 by Connect, and was named one of “Utah’s 100 Most Influential People” in 2008 by Utah Business. In 2008 he was named the first recipient of the Pierre Lassonde Presidential Chair in Entrepreneurship by the University of Utah. He serves on the boards of Junior Achievement, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, the University Venture Fund, the Lassonde New Venture Development Center, the Sorenson Innovation Center, the University of Utah Research Foundation, the Utah Education CRA Fund, BioMeridian, and Idaho Technology, and is a partner in Finch Capital, a private equity fund.

James Lee Sorenson, Founding Donor, Board of Directors.
James Lee Sorenson is a nationally recognized business leader and entrepreneur who helped develop several new industry categories in today's business world. Under his leadership, Sorenson Medical developed a line of portable, microchip-controlled infusion pumps that deliver drugs safely while allowing patients mobility and lifestyle flexibility during chemotherapy or pain treatment. As CEO of Sorenson Media, Sorenson developed the world's leading digital compression-decompression software and the first high-quality, low-cost videophone. He also created a nationwide video relay service for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, which was acquired by GTCR in 2005 in the most lucrative private equity deal in Utah history. Sorenson's other leadership responsibilities include The Sorenson Group, which owns and is developing over 60,000 acres of industrial, commercial, residential and retail real estate, and Sorenson Capital, which has raised approximately $650 million to invest in small- to mid-size U.S. companies. He also serves on the boards of a number of charities and community organizations.

Taylor Randall, , Faculty Advisor, Board of Directors.
Taylor Randall is the George S. Eccles Faculty Fellow of Accounting and Information Systems at the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah. He is also a visiting professor at the Wharton School of Business and INSEAD. Professor Randall’s current research and consulting projects examine the interactions between strategy, technology, products and value chain structure with particular emphasis on how these interactions affect financial performance in
organizations. Taylor's past and present research partners include Boeing Commercial Aircraft Group, General Motors, Dell Computers, Dupont Agricultural Chemicals, Cannondale Corporation, Emptoris, and McKinley Capital. His work has been published in, among other journals, Marketing Science, Management Science, Journal of Product Innovation Management and The Financial Times. Professor Randall's industrial experience includes positions as a senior consultant at Arthur Andersen & Co. and as an assistant production manager at Lone Peak Designs along with numerous consulting engagements at companies like General Motors Corporation, Dupont, MPM/Speedline Technologies,
O.C. Tanner Company, Vista Staffing Solutions and American Investment Bank. Professor Randall is the faculty advisor for the University Venture Fund.
Professor Randall received a B.A. in accounting from the University of Utah, and
an M.B.A., a Masters in Managerial Economics, and a Ph.D. from the
Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Ladd E. Christensen, Board of Directors.
Over the past 25 years, Mr. Christensen founded or co-founded a number
of successful start-up enterprises in industries ranging from oil and
gas, real estate, industrial chemicals, manufacturing, technology and
the Internet. These enterprises include ExpressCompany.com, Inc.;
Vinca Corporation; RMS Information Services, L.C.; MaxIS Research,
Inc.; Petrosource Corporation; Whitehall Products; Huntsman Chemical
and Oil Corporation; Huntsman Christensen Corporation; Escadril
Engineering and Manufacturing, Inc.; and Whitehall Corporation. Mr.
Christensen currently serves as chief executive officer of Whitehall
Corporation, an enterprise incubator and venture capital organization.
Since 1992, Mr. Christensen has initiated and directed successful
public service endeavors to promote and facilitate the use of
technology in government, education and the private sector. He
founded and serves as Chairman of the Foundation for Strategic
Enterprise Knowledge Centers, conceptualized and proposed SmartStates
for the Western Governors Association (resulted in the founding of the
Western Governors Virtual University), founded and served as Chairman
of SmartUtah (a public/private initiative), founded and serves as
Chairman of Square One Foundation (an organization dedicated to the
development of values and character of children during their formative
years), and has served as a Trustee of the Utah Information
Technologies Association. From 1992 to 1996 Mr. Christensen served as
Chairman of the State of Utah Division of Business and Economic
Development and from 1983 to 1986 he served as a member of the Federal
Home Loan Bank Board. Mr. Christensen holds a BS in mathematics and
an MBA from the University of Utah.

Kent Madsen, Board of Directors.
Mr. Madsen is a Managing Director with Epic (formerly Wasatch) Venture Fund
and Zions SBIC. He is also currently on the Board of Directors of Zions
First National Bank. Previously Kent was President, CEO and Director of
MACC (MACC) private equities, a later-stage publicly traded private
equity firm that provided investments in approximately 120 firms in
diverse industries. He was also an Investment Advisor of MeVC Draper
Fisher Jurvetston I, a publicly traded venture capital fund (NYSE: MVC).
Previously, Kent worked for Ford Motor Company in the Advanced
Technology Group. While there, he developed mathematical and
computational models analyzing vehicle aerodynamic and thermodynamic
properties and systems. He then transferred to the China Operations
where he helped write, present and negotiate joint venture proposals.
Kent then relocated to China to manage the Product Development of a
newly established joint venture in China.
Prior to Ford, as a graduate student, Mr. Madsen taught courses in
Engineering Thermodynamics and co-authored the Solutions Manual for
Fundamentals of Classic Thermodynamics, 5th edition, published by John
Wiley & Sons. Mr. Madsen has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and
Applied Mechanics with a Minor in Mathematics from the University of
Pennsylvania. He also has a M.S.E. from the University of Michigan and
an M.A. in International Studies, earned as a Lauder Fellow, from the
Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. His M.B.A. is from
Wharton.
Bruce Olson, Board of Directors.
Mr. Olson is a leader in Utah in organizing and advising nonprofit and
tax-exempt organizations, including some of the largest private
foundations, universities, health care institutions, and charities in
the State, as well as small tax-exempt organizations. He prepares
organizational documents, helps secure tax exemption from the IRS and
provides advice on charitable solicitation matters, Board member
duties and State and Federal tax matters. His numerous contacts with
the Utah State Tax Commission and Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
assist in resolving complex legal circumstances. As principal drafter
of the Utah's Nonprofit Corporation Act, he is in an exceptional
position to advise Utah nonprofit corporations concerning their
statutory rights and duties. Mr. Olson maintains an "AV" rating with
Martindale-Hubbell, which is the highest rating awarded to attorneys
for professional competence and ethics. He has also been named as one
of The Best Lawyers in America in Tax Law, and has also been voted by
his peers throughout the state as one of Utah's "Legal Elite" in the
categories of Government Law and Taxes/Estates/Trusts (as published in
Utah Business Magazine).
